FOX Has 'Simple' Formula, Splits Tuesday with NBC
Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003.
While ratings dipped for FOX's "The Simple Life" in its second week, the reality hit remained the night's highest rated program in the key demographics and helped carry the network to a Tuesday night ratings split.

CBS, FOX Take Tuesday Titles
Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004.

Overall, CBS averaged an 8.3/13 for the night, beating second place NBC's 7.3/11. FOX stayed in a solid third at 6.4/10 , followed by ABC's 5.4/9, UPN's 2.8/4 and The WB's 2.7/4.

FOX Rolls on Tuesday as 'Idol' Beats the Bush
Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004.
From 9 p.m. ET on, all four major networks were showing President Bush's State of the Union address, earning nearly identical ratings. Thanks to the 8 p.m. dominance of "American Idol," though, FOX was able to lap the field on Tuesday night.
Overall, FOX averaged a 10.8 rating/16 share for the night, well in front of second place CBS' 5.9/9. NBC's 5.0/8 and ABC's 4.6/7 followed. By sticking with regularly scheduled programming, both netlets had solid nights with The WB earning a 3.3/5 and UPN taking a 2.5/4.
Among adults 18-49, FOX was dominant, earning an 8.2 rating, better than the other three major networks combined in the coveted demographic. NBC was second at 2.5, while ABC and CBS had the same 2.2 rating. The WB has a 1.8 rating to beat the 1.6 for UPN.
Please note that due to the nature of live events, all ratings reflect time period data rather than data for specific programming.
At 8 p.m., "American Idol" showed only minimal viewer erosion, scoring a 15.5/23 for FOX. CBS was a distant second with the 7.1/11 for "Navy NCIS." ABC had third with the 4.9/7 average between two episodes of "According to Jim," which was enough to beat "The Tracy Morgan Show" and "Whoopi" on NBC. On The WB, "Gilmore Girls" had a 3.5/5 to beat "One on One" and "All of Us" on UPN.
The "Idol" lead-in helped make FOX the most watched network during the 9 p.m. hour, taking a 6.1/9 for the State of the Union. NBC and CBS tied in second, with ABC's 5.2/8 last among the major networks. The combined number of State of the Union viewers on the three most watched networks was nearly identical to the number of viewers for "American Idol." UPN had a strong 3.2/5 for "America's Next Top Model," edging the 3.1/5 for "One Tree Hill" on The WB.
At 10 p.m., the networks turned their speech coverage over to analysis and the Democratic response and NBC led the way with a 5.2/9 for the hour. CBS was second at 4.7/8 and ABC trailed.
Ratings information is taken from fast national data. All numbers are preliminary and subject to change, especially in the case of live telecasts.[Blockierte Grafik: http://24tv.de/banner_avatare/yvonne/long_day.jpg]

Other Networks Still 'Idol'-ize FOX on Tuesday
Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004.
As "American Idol" reached Hollywood, 117 contestants began Tuesday night's show, but a fourth were gone by the end of the episode. On the other hand, FOX's reality smash began its hour with 28 million viewers and swelled to over 32 million by the end, leading the network to yet another easy Tuesday win.
Overall, FOX averaged a 12.1 rating/18 share for the evening. Second place NBC, with a freshly rearranged schedule, was well back with a 7.3/11, which edged the 7.0/11 for third place CBS. ABC was a distant fourth with a 4.7/7, staying ahead of the 3.2/5 for UPN and The WB's 3.1/5.
Among adults 18-49, it was the same story, with FOX earning a 9.0 in the coveted young adult demographic, more than twice the 4.0 rating earned by second place NBC. CBS was third with a 3.0 rating, better than ABC's 2.5 rating. UPN earned a 2.1 on the night, in front of The WB's 1.8 rating.
At 8 p.m., "American Idol" had a 16.9/25, the show's best ratings so far this season. CBS reaired the premiere of "Survivor: All-Stars" and was able to still earn a 5.8/9 for second. NBC's "Whoopi" and "Happy Family" took third, edging "According to Jim" (5.1/8) and "I'm With Her" (4.3/6) on ABC. A new episode of The WB's "Gilmore Girls" had a 3.3/5 and doubled up UPN's "One on One" and "All of Us."
Like last week, FOX's "24" lost most of its "Idol" audience, but still held onto an 8.2/12 in its first half before slipping to a 6.6/10 in its second half. The 7.4/11 was good enough for the slimmest of hourly wins, putting FOX just ahead of the identical 7.3/11 numbers for CBS' "Navy NCIS" and NBC's "Frasier" (8.1/12) and "Scrubs" (6.4/10). ABC was fourth again with "According to Jim" and "Less than Perfect." UPN was close behind with the 4.7/7 for "America's Next Top Model," which again trounced The WB's "One Tree Hill."
NBC moved into the lead at 10 p.m. with the 9.8/16 for "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," which bettered the 8.0/13 for "Judging Amy." CBS' second place drama still doubled up a new episode of "Line of Fire" on

FOX Wins Tuesday as 'Idol' Dips
Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004.
The transition from audition specials to fan voting saw FOX's "American Idol" turn in the lowest Tuesday/Wednesday ratings of its third season, but when your worst effort is watched by 26 million people, that's still not bad.
Overall, FOX averaged a 10.5 rating/16 share for the evening, easily besting second place CBS' 8.0/12. NBC was a competitive third with a 7.6/12, putting ABC in fourth at 5.8/9. UPN had a 3.3/5 to edge The WB's 3.1/5 for fifth.
Among adults 18-49, FOX won by a wider margin, earning a 7.7 rating in the coveted demographic. NBC moved up to second with a 4.9 rating, with ABC's 3.4 good enough to beat CBS' 2.6 for third. UPN had a strong night with a 2.3 rating, bettering The WB's 1.7.
At 8 p.m., FOX was on top with the 14.7/22 showing for "American Idol." CBS took second with "Navy NCIS," which had an 8.4/13. NBC was third with a repeat of "Friends" and "Will & Grace." The "Idol" audience ate heavily into the numbers for ABC's "8 Simple Rules," which dipped to a 5.1/8 and combined with the 3.8/6 for "I'm With Her" for fourth. On The WB, "Gilmore Girls" had a 3.1/5 and easily was in front of UPN's "One on One" and "All of Us."
NBC snagged the lead at 9 p.m. with "Will & Grace" (8.0/12) and "Scrubs" (7.5/11) featuring Michael J. Fox. CBS was second with the 7.3/11 for "The Guardian," as "24" plummeted to third on FOX. "According to Jim" and "Less than Perfect" averaged a 5.7/9 for fourth. UPN got a solid 4.5/7 out of "America's Next Top Model" (down in ratings, but up slightly in viewers) and "One Tree Hill" had a 2.9/4 for The WB.
NBC stayed in first at 10 p.m. with the 9.1/15 for "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," beating "Judging Amy" on CBS. On ABC, the return of "NYPD Blue" was worth a 7.3/12 and third.

America Votes for FOX on Tuesday
Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004.
CBS' Tuesday night dramas remained consistent, but FOX's "American Idol" remained too much. However, for the second straight week, the reality smash's ratings took a dip and FOX's margin of victory dwindled.
Overall, FOX still averaged a 10.4 rating/16 share, well ahead of CBS' 8.4/13. NBC stayed close with a 7.1/11 and ABC was fourth with a 6.19. UPN had a 3.4/5 and narrowly beat the 3.3/5 for The WB.
Among adults 18-49, FOX had a 7.6 rating, to beat NBC's 5.0 rating in the coveted demographic. ABC was third with a 3.4, dropping CBS' 3.0 rating to fourth. UPN was a sold fifth at 2.3, while The WB trailed with a 2.3 rating.
At 8 p.m., "American Idol" scored a 14.4/22, dropping more than 1 million viewers from last week (not that 24.8 million viewers is bad). CBS got a solid second with the 8.5/13 for "Navy NCIS." The other networks were well back. NBC took third with "Fear Factor," which ABC wasn't far behind with "8 Simple Rules" and "I'm With Her" averaging a 5.2/8 between them. On The WB, "Gilmore Girls" had a 3.6/5 and beat UPN's double-dose of "All of Us" by a solid margin.
CBS moved into the lead at 9 p.m. with the 7.7/12 for "The Guardian." ABC was up to second with "According to Jim" (7.2/11) and "Less than Perfect" (6.4/10). On FOX, "24" took its usual massive drop, but barely held onto third, beating NBC, which averaged a 6.0/9 between "Fear Factor" and "Scrubs." For the first time in several weeks, UPN's "America's Next Top Model" saw a minor drop, still holding onto a 4.2/6, beating the 3.0/4 for The WB's "One Tree Hill."
NBC claimed the night's final primetime hour, earning a 9.6/16 for "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." CBS was in second with the 8.8/14 for "Judging Amy," with ABC's "NYPD Blue" in a distant third.

'Idol' Yields Another Tuesday Rout for FOX
Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004.
Tuesday night television was all about reality. The evening began with FOX's smash "American Idol," continued with record ratings for UPN's "America's Next Top Model" and concluded with a respectable performance from ABC's "Super Millionaire."
Overall, FOX won the night with ease, scoring a 10.9 rating/16 share, easily besting second place CBS' 7.9/12. NBC was back in third with a 6.9/11, with ABC a competitive fourth with a 6.5/10. Both netlets had strong nights with UPN finishing at 3.5/5 and The WB at 3.3/5.

Ciao,
