If even one person decides to go out and rent THE GIRL NEXT DOOR this coming weekend (or even buy it), then this article would have been worth writing. I'm not one to write pieces just to push certain movies, but if there's any movie that was totally underrated this year and dissed at the box-office, it was the sweet, funny and damn cool "teen comedy" entitled THE GIRL NEXT DOOR, which just hit your video stores this past Tuesday and sold an amazing 700,000 units in its first day alone! If those numbers continue until week end, the film would have grossed $15 million in its first week on DVD, which is more than its entire run in theaters (it only made $14.6M when it was released back in April) Nobody is sure what went wrong with this film's initial release, but most critics, most of the schmoes on our board and pretty much everyone on our staff (including the Arrow, the Shootin' Surgeon, Indiana Sev and myself) thought this was a great throw-back to the John Hughes comedies from the 80s, and just a good ol' time at the theater. Check it out...rent it, buy it...just give it a chance and I'm pretty sure that you won't be disappointed. I've seen it 4 times already and really enjoy it every time. And oh yeah...Timothy Olyphant is the "tits". Note: According to the IMDB, the character of Eli was based on writer/director Eli Roth?

In related news, the gorgeous star of THE GIRL NEXT DOOR, Elisha Cuthbert, has just signed to star as yet another "popular and beautiful girl", but this time, as part of a typical middle-class family, living a great life until a supposedly deaf orphan teenager comes to live with said family, sparking events that reveal them not to be what they all seemed to be. The film is a thriller called DOT, which Cuthbert would also co-produce. Filming starts in mid-September.

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Carmela Soprano and the Iceman cometh.

"Sopranos" star Edie Falco, "X-Men's" Shawn Ashmore, Martin Donovan and Camilla Belle are joining Elisha Cuthbert in the indie thriller "Dot," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The project centers on Dot (Belle), the titular deaf and mute orphaned teenager, who is welcomed into her godparents' (Falco, Donovan) home. Events transpire revealing that the family is not what it appears to be.

Cuthbert plays Nina, the popular daughter of the family. Ashmore will portray the all-star athlete who begins a relationship with Dot and has is own secrets.

The film marks the maiden project from Burned Orange, a University of Texas production unit that allows students to work side-by-side with professionals on set.

Jamie Babbit, veteran TV director of shows such as "Gilmore Girls," "The Bernie Mac Show," "Ed" and "Miss Match," will begin shooting in mid-September. Cuthbert will also take a producer's credit.

Belle, 17, takes over the lead role after Thora Birch exited the post. Belle has appeared in "A Little Princess," "The Lost World: Jurassic Park," "The Patriot" and "Practical Magic." Donovan's film credits include "Malcolm X," "The Opposite of Sex," "Agent Cody Banks" and the recent "Saved!"

Ashmore, 24, plays the cool teen Bobby, aka Iceman, in the two "X-Men" films. He's also been filming the Sci Fi Channel miniseries adaptation of the Ursula K. Le Guin's "Earthsea" fantasy novels. Falco, 41, has played the matriarch of HBO's favorite family, "The Sopranos," since 1999. Her film credits include "Private Parts," "Cop Land" and "Random Hearts."

According to Superman-V.com, actress Evangeline Lilly has dropped out of the running to play Lois Lane due to commitments on the hit ABC series "Lost," and the final candidates for the role include Kate Bosworth, "24" damsel in distress Elisha Cuthbert and "Stage Beauty's" Claire Danes.

The site also reports that Jack Larson, who played Jimmy Olsen in the George Reeves-fueled TV series, told the New York Social Diary that director Bryan Singer approached him about playing Perry White.

Here it is, my favorite movie title for 2005 - THE ITTY BITTY TITTY COMMITTEE. It unfortunately will probably not be able to get that title past the MPAA but damn if it doesn't already get me wanting to see it. Another bonus? Elisha Cuthbert stars. The film, written and to be directed by Jamie Babbit (BUT I'M A CHEERLEADER), follows a high school girl who finds a sense of purpose after joining the titular radical feminist group. Power Up, a non-profit agency, will provide the film's budget through a series of grants designed to assist lesbian filmmakers. Babbit is a member of the Honorary Board of Directors of said non-profit agency. Babbit and Cuthbert recently wrapped another indie film, the thriller DOT. ITTY BITTY will co-star Camilla Bell, Martin Donovan and Edie Falco with filming set to begin this spring.
