At CTU Medical, Tony wakes up and asks the medical staff where Michelle is. The doctors inform Buchanan that Tony is conscious, and he heads down to Medical. The doctors tell Buchanan that the news of Michelle's death could cause Tony’s condition to worsen, and he could break down. The staff thinks they should lie to Tony and tell him that Michelle is still alive. They all agree, and they tell Tony that Michelle is still alive, but Tony knows that something is up.

Martha speaks with Aaron Pierce, and she tells him that Logan knew about the ambush and that he did absolutely nothing to stop it. Pierce dismisses Martha’s allegation but still listens to what she has to say.

Bierko and the other Russians are preparing for the retaliation attack because of the failed attempt on the Russian President's life, and they are preparing more canisters for an operation at a hospital. Bierko also learns that a CTU keycard is on the open market, and he arranges to buy it from Jenny's boyfriend for $20,000. Jenny doesn't know about the sale; the boyfriend is doing it behind her back.

Jack calls CTU and tells them that Henderson tried to kill him. CTU runs a search on Henderson. They track down his home address and give it to Jack, and he races to the address to beat Henderson there. At CTU, the terrorists' bodies from the Russian President's assassination attempt are examined, and CTU finds a vent system blueprint and quickly run a search for a match.

Meanwhile, Tony sneaks out of his room, finds a computer, and runs a search for Michelle. He's absolutely devastated when the computer pulls up a photo of her dead body from the crime scene. He falls to the ground and breaks down. Buchanan and the doctor run in and try and comfort him, but they can't.

At Logan's retreat, the rescue helicopter lands, and Martha and the Russian President and First Lady exit. The Russian President speaks with President Logan, and he questions Logan and talks about Martha's behavior, thinking something is wrong. Logan then goes to look for Martha.

At CTU, they discover that the vent blueprints match the layout for a local hospital, so teams are dispatched and the hospital is quickly evacuated. Lynn asks to place a phone call: He wants to call his sister so he can get the CTU keycard back. Buchanan agrees to let him make the call. Lynn calls Jenny, who agrees to give him the card back. Jenny talks it over with the boyfriend, who reveals he's selling it for $20,000, so she quickly shuts up about giving the card back to Lynn.

At the retreat, President Logan is still looking for Martha, and he finds Evelyn. He says he wants to speak with his wife, but Evelyn says that Martha doesn't want to see him. She does, however, request to see Aaron Pierce.

At the hospital, a terrorist is dressed like a worker, and he is carrying the nerve gas through the hospital. Curtis and his team arrive, and continue the evacuation as they search for the terrorist.

Back at the retreat, Aaron enters Martha's room and they talk. Martha kind of grabs his hand romantically, and Mike Novick walks in on them: Awkward movement for everyone!

Jack arrives at Henderson's house, and it looks like he's beaten Henderson there. Jack covertly enters the house and sees Henderson's wife. Jack surprises her and then tells her what's going on, but she thinks Jack is lying and that he’s trying to frame her husband again. Jack accesses Henderson's computer, but the hard drive has been wiped clean; there's nothing left on it.

Meanwhile, Curtis and the other agents continue to search for the terrorist. Hospital security is reviewing surveillance tapes. They track the terrorist and see that he is in a restricted area, and they head after him. At CTU, they receive intelligence on Vladimir Bierko and learn that he is in control of the nerve gas. They pass the information on to the White House.

At the Henderson home, Chloe remotely accesses Henderson's computer and finds a shadow drive, but it’s password protected, and Henderson's wife doesn't know the password. Henderson arrives at the house, and Jack moves towards the door and waits for him to enter.

At CTU, they ID the suspect at the hospital -- his name is Viktor. Curtis and the other agents close in on him, shots are fired, and Viktor is hit. Curtis checks on the nerve gas canisters, but it's too late because the arming sequence has already been initiated, and the gas will be released in 10 minutes. They immediately begin to try to disarm the canister.

At the Henderson home, Chris enters the house, and Jack attacks him and knocks him out. Jack puts handcuffs on him and takes him over to the couch where Henderson's wife is already sitting. Jack begins interrogating both of them. Henderson says he has done nothing wrong, but Jack grabs Henderson's briefcase and opens it to reveal that it's full of money. Henderson's wife is surprised by the money, and she now believes her husband may be up to no good. As the interrogation goes on, it's as if Henderson is daring Jack to push harder because Henderson knows Jack's technique, having taught it to him. But Jack grabs his gun and SHOOTS Henderson's wife in the knee. She screams in pain, but Henderson still won't say anything. Jack knows that pushing any harder won’t do any good; Henderson won't break no matter what Jack does. So Jack takes them both to his car, and they head to CTU.

At the hospital, Curtis and the techs are still trying to disarm the nerve gas canister. They are running out of time, and Curtis grabs the canister and runs through the hospital with it. The gas is seconds away from being released when Curtis throws it into a secure container, and it goes off just as the container is closed. The attack has been stopped and no lives have been lost...for now.

At Lynn's sister's house, Jenny and her boyfriend are preparing for the meet to sell the keycard. The terrorists storm the house, execute the both of them, and take the keycard. One of the gunmen calls Bierko and tells him that the card is secure, and that it can be re-coded within five minutes, at which time they will have full access to the Counter Terrorist Unit.

Part 1 of 3

Lynn’s sister’s house: The terrorist steps over the dead bodies of Jenny and her boyfriend, heads outside, and calls Vladimir Bierko. The terrorist tells Bierko that the keycard is being reprogrammed, that the CTU agent’s face (Lynn’s, of course) is being removed from the card, and that the terrorist’s own face will be carefully deposited on the card so he can gain access into CTU.

Logan’s ranch: The President is briefed on CTU’s investigation, and Logan learns that Christopher Henderson has been captured by Bauer and is being escorted to CTU for interrogation (Jack knows that Henderson can withstand conventional torture, so he’s going to need to use different methods).

CTU: Kim and her shrink friend Barry arrive. They are both escorted into the Situation Room. Audrey sees Kim and calls Jack (who is still escorting Henderson to CTU) to tell him that Kim just arrived. Jack tells Audrey to tell Kim that he is still alive and to explain why he had to lie to Kim to keep her safe. Audrey enters the Situation Room, where Kim introduces Barry to Audrey. Audrey tells Kim that she would like to speak with her in private, but Kim says that whatever Audrey has to say to her, she can say in front of Barry as well. So Audrey reveals that Jack is still alive, and Kim is absolutely shocked and speechless.

Logan’s ranch: Vice President Hal Gardner arrives. Mike Novick is surprised to see the VP; he was clueless about him coming to Southern California, as he was under the impression that the VP was in Utah. Vice President Gardener proposes that the entire state of California be placed under Martial Law on account of the gas attacks and the new projected death rate numbers. Gardener says that they don’t have to call the plan “Martial Law” – by referring to it as something else, the initiative will ease through Congress much more smoothly.

CTU: Henderson and Jack arrive. Henderson tries to defend his actions, saying that everything done today has been for the good of the country; he was protecting America. Henderson realizes he's going to be pushed to his limits, and he tells Jack not to do so because what he has to say would figuratively open Pandora’s Box.

CTU: Vladimir Bierko’s operative conceals the nerve gas canister. He arrives at CTU, clears the security checkpoints with the stolen keycard, he strolls right into CTU with the nerve gas. Meanwhile, Jack goes into the Situation Room, he sees Kim, and she sees him. Jack tries to explain his reasons for faking his death, but Barry keeps butting in. He’s ruining the moment, and Jack asks Kim to make Barry leave. As Jack and Kim talk, he continues to explain his reasons for faking his death, and he tells Kim that everyone that knew he was alive is either dead or escaped attempts on their lives. Kim starts to understand everything, and she cries. Jack then leaves her alone.

Bierko’s operative maneuvers his way around CTU and accesses its ventilation system using Lynn’s keycard. He begins to set up the canister so he can release the gas. Bill Buchanan goes into CTU Medical. Tony is still awake, and he wants to know who is responsible for killing his wife. Buchanan is hesitant, but Tony persists, and Buchanan finally says that the highest-ranking suspect they have is a former CTU agent named Christopher Henderson, and that Henderson is involved in the terrorist plot. Tony is filled with anger, and he obviously wants to go after Henderson.

Jack goes into the interrogation room. Henderson is secured to the table there, and the torturer is injecting him with a new fluid that will inflict more pain than any human can take; the fluid is a neuro-inflammatory. Henderson isn’t talking, so they begin to introduce the fluid into his system.

Logan’s ranch: Mike Novick confronts Martha Logan because he wants her to talk with Charles about NOT supporting Vice President Gardener’s martial law plan. Martha says she agrees with Mike, and she will talk with Charles about it.

CTU: Bierko’s operative messes with CTU’s computer system and uses it to open the ventilation system. A CTU worker named Carrie tells Edgar that something is wrong, and Edgar tells her to go check it out. Carrie gets to the room, sees the nerve gas and tries to call Edgar, but Bierko’s operative kills her. Buchanan receives information on Lynn’s sister’s death, and he tells Lynn that his sister has been killed, and that the authorities believe it was the work of a professional. McGill puts two and two together and realizes that she was killed because of the keycard. Buchanan calls Chloe to see if the card has been used recently, and Chloe pulls up the logs and sees that it has been used within the last hour. Chloe then issues an immediate lockdown, and CTU is in chaos.

Part 3 of 3

CTU: Jack is still interrogating Henderson, who is in agonizing pain. Henderson still won’t talk, but his vitals are crashing, so Jack stops the interrogation and allows Henderson to be taken into CTU Medical.

Bierko’s operative begins to make his escape from CTU, as the gas will be released at any second. He kills a CTU guard, but then Jack corners him. The operative pulls a gun on Jack, who is therefore forced to shoot him. Jack examines the operative, finds his PDA, and sees that it’s on a countdown timer for the release of the gas.

CTU is in chaos and is being evacuated. Chloe is on her computer trying to find rooms that can be sealed off. The gas is released and agents start dying immediately. Jack, Chloe, Buchanan, Kim, Barry, Audrey and a few others make it into the Situation Room, which can indeed be sealed off. However, once inside, they cannot open the doors again, or the protective seal will be broken, and they all will be infected.

Henderson is moved into a secure area of CTU Medical. Tony is in a secure room as well.

The Situation Room has glass windows for walls, so everyone inside can see the craziness outside, most notably the dying agents. Edgar comes running towards the room, but the door can’t be opened. Edgar makes eye contact with Chloe, and she is torn. In fact, everyone in the Situation Room is distraught, and they watch Edgar fall, convulse and die as the episode comes to an end.
