SAG TV Nominations Spread the Wealth
(Thursday, January 15 08:39 AM)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Two TV projects that couldn't be more different, "Angels in America" and "Everybody Loves Raymond," garnered the most nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards Thursday (Jan. 15).
HBO's film of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play about AIDS in 1980s New York and CBS' long-running sitcom each received six nominations. NBC's "Will & Grace" and "The West Wing" got four nods apiece, while the HBO drama "Six Feet Under" earned three.
Three long-running comedies saying their goodbyes this season were largely snubbed. "Sex and the City's" cast received a nomination for its work as an ensemble, but none of the four lead actresses was nominated for an individual award. The same was true of NBC's "Frasier," while "Friends" earned nods only for ensemble performance and for Lisa Kudrow.
Another likely suspect, "The Sopranos," took 2003 off, so its cast isn't eligible for the awards this time around.
NBC led the network race with 13 nominations. HBO and CBS each have 10. Showtime received four nominations, all in the TV-movie categories. ABC, FOX, The WB and USA earned one nod each.
On the motion-picture side, "Mystic River" and indie favorite "The Station Agent" each earned three nominations, while "21 Grams," "Seabiscuit" and "thirteen" received two each.
The SAG Awards will air on TNT Sunday, Feb. 22.
