After three straight weeks at the top spot, THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST finally slipped into second place as the "remake" of the DAWN OF THE DEAD brought in some major bucks, and finished atop the weekend's box-office race. The film, which apparently only cost $26M, is estimated to have grossed $27.3M over its first three days, surpassing most expectations. PASSION continued its plight toward the illustrious $400M mark, with another $19.2M added to Mel Gibson's back-pocket. The other two films opening this weekend fared decently, with Angelina Jolie's TAKING LIVES opening in 4th spot with a little over $11M, while Jim Carrey's less commercial film, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE LONG TITLE NOT GOOD FOR MARKETING, opened in 6th, with a little under 9M.
