"Kiefer hasn't left Reiko's side"
OLD FLAME Things have cooled between Kiefer and ex-fiancee Catherine Bisson, says a source. Kiefer Sutherland saved 24 co-star Reiko Aylesworth's life - and she stole his heart, sources say.
Aylesworth was severely injured when she slipped on some spilled booze at the April wrap party for the Fox Network's hit series, and slammed the back of her head on a wall and the front of her head on the floor. Sutherland, who plays government agent Jack Bauer, rushed her from the party at a private home to Kaiser-Permanente Hospital in Woodland Hills, Calif.
Since then, "Kiefer hasn't left Reiko's side," an insider says. "Caring for her when she was ill brought out his tenderness. Now they're inseparable." Before the accident, the pair only occasionally worked directly with each other on the show, but they got to know each other at script readings.
"They became close friends as time went on," the insider reveals. "Kiefer seemed particularly happy on the set when Reiko was around."
Their romance blossomed after Reiko's accident. "Kiefer was scared, and afterward, he constantly checked on her," adds the insider. "He got more and more attached to Reiko during his visits to her home. He'd do her grocery shopping and run little errands for her."
"Gradually, friendship and concern turned to love." Kiefer was still with artist-fiancee Catherine Bisson as recently as April, when they were photographed together painting his house, as shown in STAR.
"But after he rushed to Reiko's aid and realized she was the one, Kiefer cooled his relationship with Catherine," a source tells us. "Their future is uncertain, to say the least".
Meanwhile, Reiko and Kiefer have been spotted strolling at Malibu's open market and having dinner at trendy restaurants like Ago in West Hollywood and Jiraffe in Santa Monica, says a source.
Although spokeswomen for both Ayleworth, 31, who plays counter-terrorism expert Michelle Dressler, and twice-divorced Sutherland, 36, insist the stars are "just friends", sources say they are enjoying a hot romance.
"Kiefer," says the source, "is telling pals that he feels like he's in love for the very first time."
